ON-CALL CRISIS POOL WORKERS NEEDED. Part-time positions are available for after hours “on-call” crisis workers to respond to mental health crisis for Wilson and Karnes Counties. Duties include crisis interventions, assessments, referrals to stabilization services, and referrals for involuntary treatment services according to the Texas Mental Health Laws. You must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, nursing, etc. On-call hours are from 5 p.m.-8 a.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays vary. If selected, you must attend required training and must be able to report to designated safe sites within 1 hour of request for assessment. Wilson County residents have until Friday, Nov. 2, to vote early ahead of Election Day Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Officials from the Wilson County Elections Office report a steady turnout since early voting began Oct. 22, with an average of approximately 710 residents voting by personal appearance each day. As of 3:07 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 4,970 voters -- slightly less than 18 percent of the county’s 27,766 registered voters, had cast ballots, officials said.

In light of the heavy turnout, Wilson County Clerk Eva Martinez said her team has been working hard to ensure the election process runs as smoothly as possible.

“In La Vernia, we have been processing voters at a rate of one per minute,” Martinez said. “That is a fast pace; this is going very quickly. We begin voting at 9 a.m., but people will start getting here at about 8.”

Floresville City Hall -- which is the polling place for Floresville city and Floresville Independent School District (ISD) elections during early voting and on Election Day -- has seen slightly less activity. City election officials report that as of 2:36 p.m. Monday, 582 of the city’s total of 4,082 registered voters had cast ballots.

As for Floresville ISD, in which the seat for single-member District 1 is up for grabs, only 77 of the district’s 2,033 registered voters had cast ballots as of 2:36 p.m. Monday.

In addition to elections being held for federal, state, county, Floresville ISD, and the city of Floresville, the county also is in the midst of an election related to a proposal for its third emergency services district. Property owners living in a significant portion of eastern Wilson County that borders Gonzales, Guadalupe, and Karnes counties are deciding this race. Due to the vast land area of the proposed district, voters should check in advance to be sure of their correct polling location.

Remember, you may have to vote in more than one location if you are voting in the Floresville City Election, or for one of the ESDs or the school board. Please check your voting status.
