‘Rope and Ride for Atlee’
The header quickly pulls back his lasso for a successful throw.
FLORESVILLE -- More than 700 teams participated in the two-day “Rope and Ride for Atlee” team-roping event held Oct. 5-6 in the Floresville Event Center Roping Arena, located west of Floresville off S.H. 97 W. The event was rescheduled from Sept. 29, due to rain.
Atlee Boone, born July 20, has been in the hospital since her birth. She has been diagnosed with VACTERL Association, a rare group of birth defects which affect spinal and bone development and renal function. The daughter of Nathan and Lauren Boone, Atlee has undergone corrective surgery, been on a ventilator, and is expected to stay in the hospital for an indefinite amount of time.
Friends of the Boones hosted a benefit in late September to offset Atlee’s mounting medical bills. Ropers had their chance to “Rope and Ride for Atlee” when Jaime and Shannon Macias of $hort Round Production$ sponsored a two-day team-roping event.
Tommy Falcon was the high-point roper, earning a trailer. The second high-point roper, Adan Coronado, earned a custom Tod Slone saddle certificate.
Saddles also were awarded to the average winners in the following:
•No. 7 -- David Tieken and Lucas Barfield
•No. 8 -- Adan Coronado and John Abel Zuniga
•No. 10 -- Adam Silguero and Leroy Martinez
•No. 12 -- Grant Schneider and Sergio Gonzales.
Crossroads belt buckles were also awarded to the second- and third-place finishers in the No. 7 roping, and second-place finishers in the No. 8 and 10.
If anyone wishes to help the Boone family, an account has been set up for Atlee’s medical expenses at the Wells Fargo bank, 1112 B St., Floresville.
