Amado Silva Sr., a longtime resident of Calaveras, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at 9:43 a.m. in his residence in Calaveras at the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 18 days. Amado was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Leesville, Texas, the son of Rafael and Guadalupe Sandoval Silva.

He was a carpenter’s helper for many years and was of the Baptist faith. Amado married Edna Mendoza on Nov. 1, 1952. He resided in Poth until age 25, before moving to the Calaveras community.

Amado was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Marisol Silva; and his daughter-in-law, Yolanda Silva.

He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 59 years, Edna Mendoza Silva of Calaveras; his children, Yolanda Marroquin and husband Benito of Calaveras, Raul Silva of Floresville, Amado Silva Jr. and wife Esther of Calaveras, Adam Silva and wife Nelda of Calaveras, Irma Bertrand and husband Stephen of Floresville, Carlos Silva and wife Michelle of Houston, and Elva Silva and John Obregon of San Antonio; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild.

Visitation was held Sunday, Oct. 21, at 5 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A graveside funeral service was held on Monday at 1 p.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery in Saspamco officiated by the Rev. Joe Canales.

Serving as pallbearers were Amado’s grandsons, Amado Silva III, B.J. Marroquin, Gilbert Adam Silva, Xavier Silva, Riley Silva, Anthony Silva, and Peter Silva.
