On Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, Anton Lawrence Lyssy was called by his Creator at the age of 74 years, 1 month, and 11 days. Anton was born to Nick and Irene Lyssy on Sept. 11, 1938, in Three Oaks, Texas.

He married Maxine Manka on Oct. 19, 1963, in Panna Maria. Anton had a life full of service, love, and good times. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1960-66. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 4315 and the Men’s Club at Holy Name and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. His service in these organizations led him to serve in his community for almost 50 years. Anton never knew the word “no” when it came to lending a helping hand when called on. He was known in the community by his many years of cooking for benefits, church picnics, fund-raisers, weddings, and cook-offs. He enjoyed dedicating his time and talent to whatever he was called to do. When the work was done, he enjoyed sitting back relaxing with friends. Through the many years of dedicated service, he never asked for or took payment because he just loved to help others. Anton enjoyed spending time with family and friends and living life to its fullest. He was a true inspiration to his family and friends with his live-right attitude.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, George Michael Lyssy.

Anton is survived by his wife of more than 49 years, Maxine Lyssy of Wilson County; his children, Sheldon Lyssy and wife Cheryl of Falls City, Cheryl Martinez and husband Al and Aldon Lyssy and wife Denice, all of Floresville, and Renee Lyssy and husband Michael J. of Falls City; his grandchildren, Devon, Brittany, and Courtney Lyssy, Nick, Katelyn, and Jeremy Martinez, Marissa, Erika, and Karina Lyssy, and Mason and Hallie Lyssy; sister Antoinette Kalala and husband William of Falls City; sister-in-law Bibian Lyssy Janek of Floresville; nephew Duane Lyssy of Falls City; and nieces Wendy Volner of Floresville and Stacie Kalala of San Antonio. Anton also leaves behind many special friends that he could always count on. A special thank-you goes to Duke and Nancy Hoff for their dedicated love for our beloved during their time together. Richard and Linda Pawlik, thank you for the many times they shared life and laughter, and Mike and Lana Summers, thanks for the visits and great memories. Thank you to Nurses In Touch for the wonderful care you gave our father when he came home to live out his final days on earth. Special thanks to Annette Villarreal for the gentle care you gave Dad. Anton will be missed by many, but will never be forgotten, said the family.

Visitation was held on Saturday, Oct. 27, with a rosary and a funeral Mass in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Falls City.

Interment followed in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church Cemetery.
