Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Alfredo “Freddy” Garcia, a lifelong resident of Poth, Texas, entered into eternal rest Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at 4:20 p.m. in the Regency Manor Nursing Home in Floresville at the age of 75 years and 15 days. Freddy was born Oct. 4, 1937, in Dewees, the son of Margarito and Catarina Gonzales Garcia.

Freddy worked as a clerk at Baumann’s Grocery Store in Poth for many years, and was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth.

Freddy is survived by his sons, Tony Garcia and wife Isabel, Billy Garcia and wife Cindy, and Raul Garcia and wife Rita, all of Poth; his siblings, Cecilio Garcia and wife Petra of Poth, Janie Camarillo and husband Fred of Floresville, and Stella Duran and husband Steven of San Antonio; his 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Monday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Poth.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth, officiated by the Rev. Phillip Henning.

Interment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Poth.
