Floresville High School cross-country athletes Ari Hernandez, Liesel Raabe, Derek "Mooch" Moczygemba, and Sean Moy share their time reading to kindergarten and first-grade students at Floresville North Elementary School on Oct. 5. Students in Ms. Silva’s, Ms. Lucas’, Mrs. D. Smith’s, and Mrs. Campos’ classes were thrilled to welcome their special guests and enjoyed listening to their high school heroes read and visit with them about the importance of being good readers.

To show their appreciation and support, each class made a special “Good Luck” sign for their guest athlete. The students and teachers at Floresville North Elementary were excited to meet the student athletes and look forward to meeting more of the Floresville High School athletes each week. The students and teachers would also like to thank Coach Aubrey Lindberg for providing this unique opportunity.

A Win-Win Partnership

Each week Floresville North Elementary School welcomes students from
Floresville High School. The high school students read to elementary classes and share the importance of becoming good readers with the students. With the support of their coaches and sponsors, high school students representing several school organizations volunteer their time and participate by partnering with an elementary class to promote reading. The elementary students are thrilled to meet the high school students and look forward to these very special visits. In return, the elementary students show their appreciation and support of their high school guests by presenting personalized signs, banners, or cards.
