A benefit was held on Oct. 21 for Lester “Coach” Jackson. Coach Jackson, as he is so fondly called, was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. He has been a long-time cross-country and tennis coach for Stockdale High School.

The benefit was held in the Stockdale Community Center where the outpouring of love and concern was evident by the amount of people who attended. The serving of barbecue plates began at 10:30 a.m. and ran throughout the day, along with a silent auction and a T-shirt sale. The Seidels, who won a John Deere lawn mower, porch swing, and patio furniture at the event, donated the patio furniture and swing back to the Jackson family.

“Think of a really big extended family ... that is how it was at the benefit for Coach Jackson on Sunday,” Ginger Jackson said. “An amazing crowd came to support him in his battle with cancer.”

“We would like to thank everyone who contributed in any way”, she continued. “A special thank-you goes to Charlin Akin, who organized the benefit. There are no words to express our appreciation for everything. Many hours of preparation and hard work went into this event and we are forever grateful. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

The Stockdale High School family would like to wish Coach Jackson a get well soon message: ... We love you!
