ST. HEDWIG -- Mary Jo Dylla has resigned as mayor after serving the city of St. Hedwig for the last 12-1/2 years, effective Nov. 2. Dylla offered her resignation at the Nov. 1 St. Hedwig City Council meeting.
Dylla said that she and her husband have chosen to buy a home outside of St. Hedwig, but still will own property in the city and will remain citizens in many ways.
Mayor Pro Tem Dwayne Padalecki said that the council has three options -- assign a mayor, hold a special election to appoint a new mayor, or resume with Padalecki as mayor pro tem. The council will decide which route it will follow at the next council meeting. An official election will be held in May 2013.
At the meeting, council members Francisco Arevalo, David Rakowitz, Susann Baker, and Walter Wyrwich thanked Dylla for her service, and Padalecki gave Dylla special thanks for leading the city through “very progressive and very productive years.”
The council will honor Dylla at the Thursday, Dec. 6, regular council meeting. All community members are invited to attend.
Also at the meeting, the council approved an interlocal agreement with Bexar County to appoint Dr. Thomas Schlenker as health authority for St. Hedwig.
