Veterans Day 2012: Floresville ISD ceremony Nov. 12 at school stadium
All veterans and active duty military from Wilson County and surrounding counties are invited to attend and be honored at the seventh annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 12, at 9:30 a.m. at Eschenburg Field in Floresville.
Veterans and immediate family members are asked to sit on the field. There will be volunteers to assist you if necessary. All other community members in attendance are asked to sit in the reserved section used at home football games for season ticket holders.
The ceremony will commence with a flyover at 9:30 a.m. sharp by the Commemorative Air Force. A special program will follow that includes the national anthem, Presentation of Colors, and Pledge of Allegiance with participation from various students and organizations across the district.
We are honored to have Lt. Col. Otto Hierholzer as our guest speaker this year. He served 20 years of active duty in the Army, primarily in Army Aviation assignments, and his overseas assignments include one tour in Germany and two tours in Vietnam. Among his awards are the Bronze Star and seven awards of the Air Medal. After retiring from active duty, he worked as a Junior ROTC instructor in the Houston Independent School District and later as Junior ROTC instructor, administrator, and middle school counselor in the Harlandale School District in San Antonio, where he retired after 24 years of service.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, all veterans are invited to attend a reception in their honor in the Floresville High School library. A special “Missing Man” table will be set to honor the deceased veterans of Wilson County.
Parking is available in the parking lot nearest the Floresville High School gymnasium off of S.H. 97 or by the auditorium on the corner of U.S. 181 and Tiger Lane. Handicapped parking is also available by the Tigers Den (entrance to this parking lot is located off of A Street).
