Palacios resigns after four years
After nearly four years of serving in various capacities, Carolyn Palacios has resigned from employment with the city of Floresville.
Palacios’ employment with the city began Dec. 1, 2008, when she was hired to fill the newly created constituent liaison position.
As constituent liaison, Palacios was responsible for handling communication with residents of Floresville and assisting with administrative issues for the city.
She was later named director of the Parks and Recreation Department. There, Palacios was responsible for ensuring the Floresville Event Center was run efficiently; her employment officially ended Nov. 2.
“It was an extremely difficult decision to make,” Palacios said. “I love my job and community very much and I would not trade it for the world.”
Palacios said she resigned from the city of Floresville to assist her husband and father with their respective businesses and to focus on her family.
“I have a senior and two kids that will be in high school next year,” Palacios said. “Also, my husband has his trucking company and my father has his plumbing company; they can really use my help right now. I am going to assist both of them. With the job I had, I found that I was away from home so often and I realized that I was missing out on a lot for my kids.”
Throughout her time with the city, Palacios has had three titles -- constituent liaison, marketing director, and parks and recreation director.
“Every time I switched titles, I still kept a lot of the same responsibilities,” Palacios said. “Even while with parks and recreation, I would still communicate with Congressman [Henry] Cuellar.”
As for future plans, Palacios said anything is possible.
“If things were different in my personal life, I’d love to come back,” Palacios said. “It’s been a wonderful experience and an honor to serve my community.”
Floresville City Manager Andy Joslin said Palacios will be missed as a city employee.
“She did great work for us and did it without complaint,” Joslin said. “Whatever we needed of her, she was there for the people of Floresville.”
Joslin said the city of Floresville will not be hiring a new parks and recreation director to replace Palacios.
“As of right now, I will be undertaking those duties that belonged to Carolyn,” Joslin said. “We are going to assess the position for now, but as far as the duties of the parks and recreation director, those will fall on me.”
