A little more than a year after he came to Floresville’s Connally Memorial Medical Center as its chief executive officer (CEO), Jerome Brooks already is moving on. The Wilson Memorial Hospital District board, at its Nov. 1 meeting, named his successor.
Tim Jones, who has served for the past 8 years as the CEO of the Heart of Texas Healthcare System in Brady, was approved by a 3-0-1 vote of the board. President Ronnie Eckel did not vote, and Monica Flores abstained. Sam Carter, Keith Johanson, and Sandy Yow voted in favor of the hospital’s management company -- Endeavor Healthcare -- moving forward with negotiations related to Jones’ hire. This decision came after more than 2 hours of discussions and an interview with the candidate.
Karl Hittle of Endeavor told the board that Jones was a contender for the position in 2011 when longtime Hospital Administrator Fran Chilek retired. But Jones’ current hospital was in the midst of a massive construction project, which prompted him to stay in Brady until it was complete.
Brooks said prior to the meeting that he is leaving Connally to perform regional management duties for Endeavor, overseeing hospitals in Texas and Oklahoma.
“I will still be here at Connally until a replacement is hired and begins,” Brooks said. “I will still be living in Wilson County and will therefore continue to work with Endeavor to support the hospital and the community.”
