While most people in the United States are preparing for holiday activities, Floresville volunteers with Operation Christmas Child -- the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind -- are filling shoebox gifts with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for needy children overseas.

This year-round project is ramping up as local businesses, churches, and community groups prepare to collect 500 gift-filled shoeboxes during National Collection Week Monday, Nov. 12, through Monday, Nov. 19.

Everyone is welcome to drop off a packed shoebox at the Oak Hills Community Church at 90 Eagle Creek Ranch Blvd. (U.S. 181) north of Floresville during the following hours:

•Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 12-14, 1-6 p.m.;

•Thursday, Nov. 15, 9 a.m. to noon;

•Friday, Nov. 16, 1-6 p.m.;

•Saturday, Nov. 17, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.;

•Sunday, Nov. 18, 2-5 p.m.; or

•Monday, Nov. 19, 9 a.m. to noon.

The First Baptist Church in La Vernia at 201 S. Crews St. will also be a drop-off site during the following days:

•Monday through Thursday, Nov. 12-15, 10 a.m. to noon;

•Friday, Nov. 16, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.;

•Saturday, Nov. 17, 9 a.m. to noon;

•Sunday, Nov. 18, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; or

•Monday, Nov. 19, 9 a.m. to noon.

For more or for additional local collection drop-off sites, call 817-595-2230 or visit www.samaritanspurse.org/occ.
