FLORESVILLE -- Following a pair of playoff wins over Victoria East and Mission Veterans Memorial, the Floresville Jaguar volleyball team is heading to the regional quarterfinals.

After turning in a perfect 14-0 district mark, the Jaguars began their playoff run in Cuero against the Victoria East Titans. Floresville had no trouble with the team out of District 30-4A, though, handing the team a straight-sets loss, 25-22, 25-12, 25-19, to win the bi-district championship. Senior Jamie Crowder led the offensive and defensive efforts at the net, earning nine kills and three blocks.

Next up was Mission Veterans Memorial out of District 32-4A. The contest was much closer, but the Jaguars held on to get the win in five sets.

Veterans Memorial took the opening set with a narrow 25-22 win, but Floresville thundered back in the second with a 25-17 win to tie the match. Veterans Memorial picked up the third set 25-20, but the Jags again tied things up with a 25-22 win in the fourth set. With things evened up, the teams went into the fifth and final set, with a race to 15. The set was just as close as the first four, but in the end, it was Floresville outpacing Veterans Memorial for the 15-11 win. The victory gave the Jaguars an area championship to celebrate, and propelled the team into regional play.

Floresville was scheduled to face Corpus Christi Flour Bluff in the regional quarterfinals on Nov. 6. Flour Bluff is among the state’s top 4A teams, and had an overall record of 28-4 heading into the quarterfinal match with Floresville. Flour Bluff is coming off a win over Calallen.

Although results were unknown as of press time, results will be posted to the Wilson County News website as they become available. A win over Flour Bluff would advance the Jaguars to the Region IV tournament this weekend.
