Karnes City 27
Stockdale 0

STOCKDALE -- In order to have a chance at the playoffs, the Stockdale Brahma football team had to have a win at home against the district-leading Karnes City Badgers last Friday night. Unfortunately, the Brahmas fell to Karnes City, 27-0.

The Badgers are a ball-control team with a big, powerful offensive line. Karnes City kept the ball on the ground and chewed up yardage and clock for four quick quarters.

The Badgers scored one touchdown in each quarter, and each score came on relatively short runs to cap off drives. The Karnes City running game averaged just over 5 yards per carry, as it pounded the ball a staggering 58 times for 301 yards of rushing offense. The Badgers attempted just one passing play, which fell incomplete.

The Brahmas struggled on both sides of the ball, as they could do little to slow or stop the Badgers. On offense, Stockdale managed just 48 yards of total offense, picking up 47 yards on the ground, and just a single yard through the air. The Brahmas were intercepted twice.

It was a night most would like to forget, as quarterback Jacob Cardenas completed just 2 of 8 passing attempts. Matt Valadez was the Brahmas’ leading rusher with 45 yards, followed by Darion McMahan with 15 yards. Dusty Mosier had two runs for 3 yards, and two Brahmas were charged with negative yardage. Valadez had one catch for 3 yards, while the other reception went for negative yardage.

The loss drops the Brahmas to 5-4 overall, and 3-3 in district play. It also eliminates Stockdale from any playoff contention as the Brahmas sit alone in fourth place.

Stockdale will close out its 2012 football season with a road game in Cotulla. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. against the Cowboys.
