Falls City 48
Louise 0

LOUISE -- Changing coaches may have changed the style of offense being run in Falls City, but it certainly hasn’t slowed the Beavers down one little bit. Falls City went to Louise last Friday night, and returned home with a convincing 48-0 win over the Hornets.

The scoring got rolling early in the first quarter as senior Beaver quarterback Cameron Soto ran in a touchdown from 10 yards out. The point-after kick was good, and Falls City led 7-0.

In the opening minute of the second quarter, Soto scored his second touchdown of the game, this time on a 19-yard run from scrimmage. The Beavers added the extra point, and enjoyed a 14-0 advantage. Soto and the Beavers weren’t done, though, and after a good defensive stop, Soto completed the hat trick with his third rushing touchdown of the game. The extra-point attempt failed, but the lead was 20 points, and things were looking good for Falls City.

While Soto is clearly among the best weapons in the Beavers’ arsenal, he is far from the only one. Joseph Swierc got in on the scoring action a little over halfway through the second quarter, as he scored from 11 yards out. The Beavers came up short as they went for 2 points, but maintained a 26-point lead. The scoring wasn’t quite over in the half, and with time winding down, the Beavers found themselves in position to widen the lead. Jon Swierc got the nod from the Louise 3-yard line, and easily punched it in for another Falls City touchdown. The Beavers then added 2 more points on the conversion, as Soto hit Stephen Harlos with the short pass. As the teams headed for the locker rooms, it was Falls City in front, 34-0.

The first touchdown of the second half came early in the third as Dean Gaskamp scored on a 6-yard run into the end zone. The point-after was good, and the score stood at 41-0. Another defensive stop by Falls City put the offense back on the field, and David Brodsky capped off a Beaver drive with a 3-yard run into the nicest patch of grass on the field. One final kick made the score 48-0, a score that would prove final.

The Beavers got most of their offense on the ground, as Soto led the team with 116 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries. Jon Swierc ran five times for 52 yards, and Gaskamp had five carries for 42 more and a score. Brodsky earned 35 yards and a touchdown on four carries, and Kendall Kanak ran five times for 25 yards. Joseph Swierc had 28 yards and a touchdown, Harlos earned 19 rushing yards, Cody Jendrusch picked up 19 yards, and Phillip Lyssy ran once for 4 yards.

Soto completed five of 11 passing attempts for 67 yards, and Gaskamp completed four of nine attempts for another 45. Harlos was the Beavers’ leading receiver with 43 yards, followed by Austen Camber and Brodsky with 18 yards apiece. Gaskamp caught a pass for 15 yards, Cody Houdmann caught one for 9 yards, Royce Leonhardt caught one for 5 yards, and Jendrusch had a grab for 4 yards.

Eric Wiatrek once again led the defensive effort, racking up 12 tackles in the game. Camber had 10 tackles, Tyler Malcolm had eight, and Colton Beam had seven.

The win improves the Beavers’ overall record to 7-2, and the team is 3-0 in district play. Falls City will close out its regular season this Friday, Nov. 9, as the Beavers host the Runge Yellowjackets. Both teams are 3-0 in district play, and the winner of this game will win the district title. The Yellowjackets are coming off a 68-18 win over Pettus. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Beaver Stadium.
