Hay & Forage report for Oct. 26

Hay prices generally steady. Trade and demand continues light to moderate as many buyers of hay not wanting to accumulate large inventories at present. Several dairies and feedlots are opting to change rations with other roughages in face of high hay costs. Parts of the state received rain and pasture condition and winter forages continue to improve. Some late bailing of hay continues in areas that received late rains. Some hay producers in parts of East, Northeast, Southeast, and South Texas have ample to a surplus of hay still on hand. Supplemental feeding continues but minimal. Prices for hay and pellets quoted per ton except where noted.
North, Central, & East Texas
Alfalfa: Small Squares: Delivered: Premium to Supreme limited test $8-$12 per bale.
Large Squares: Delivered: Premium to Supreme $300-$340, instances $150 per bale; Good to Premium $275-$300.
Coastal Bermuda: Delivered: Large Bales: $150-$175, some sales $75-$100 per bale.
Small Squares: FOB: Good to Premium $265-$330, $8-$10 per bale; Good $5-$8 per bale.
Large Rounds: FOB: Good to Premium $60-$100; Good $40-$60 per roll.
South Texas Hay Report
Coastal Bermuda: Small squares: FOB: Good to Premium $230-$265, $7-$8 per bale; Fair to Good $165-$230, $5-$7 per bale.
Large rounds: FOB and delivered locally: Good to Premium $110-$140; $60-$80 per roll, Good $55-$60 per roll.
