Ernest “Bubba” Wehman Jr., 72, of Pleasanton, Texas, passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, in Pleasanton. He was born March 13, 1940.

He was a graduate of Pleasanton High School in 1958 and went on to receive an associate of arts degree from Schreiner Institute in 1960. He then received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1962. He was later honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1969. He continued a business his father started in 1933, and became president of Wehman Inc. in 1977.

Bubba’s passion for the petroleum industry led him to become involved in state and national organizations of Petroleum Marketers Association of America, Texas Oil Marketers Association, and National Association of Texaco Wholesalers, where he served as president for each. He was involved with many civic duties, including Pleasanton Jaycees, and went on to be a state director. He was also a member of the Pleasanton Rotary Club for 50 years and served as president and assistant to the district governor for several terms. He was a member of the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce, South Texas Chamber of Commerce, and Texas Chamber of Commerce and served as president for all organizations. He served on many different community boards, including Atascosa Hospital Association, Atascosa Appraisal District, and Alamo Area Council of Boy Scouts. His dedication for education led him to serve on the board of directors at Texas State Technical College, board of trustees of Schreiner College, Texas Council on Economic Education, several Pleasanton ISD campus committees, and Pleasanton district Education Improvement Council, and was a founding member and board member of Pleasanton ISD Education Foundation. He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Jourdanton where he served on the church council and was president for several terms.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Amanda Wehman Sr.; and sister and brother-in-law Don and Jo Ann McFarland.

Bubba is survived by his wife, Janie Raye Wehman of Pleasanton; daughters Staci Barta and husband Jeff of Pleasanton, Andra Smith and husband Craig of Sequim, Wash., and Jane Ann Elizondo and husband Daniel of Silsbee; grandchildren Tyler Jones, Dalyn Jones, Phillip Barta, Veronica Barta, Travis Barta, Mollie Smith, Samantha Smith, Kinley Owens, and Gabe Elizondo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 2-8 p.m. in the Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton.

A funeral service was held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Interment followed in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Jourdanton.

Serving as pallbearers were Lee Ricks Jr., Jerome Brite, Bob Kinsel Jr., Matthew Cogswell, Ned Gossett, and Larry Ferguson.
