SAN ANTONIO -- The Floresville Tiger junior varsity football team ended its 2012 season with a tough 21-14 loss against the Southside Cardinals.

The Tigers started off well, as the defense got a stop and the offense methodically moved the ball down the field to score the first touchdown. It came on a tough run up the middle by Tyler Masur to take a 6-0 lead. The extra-point attempt failed. Southside took the lead shortly after that by the score of 7-6.

The Tigers then answered with a nice throw and catch from Dillon Gaither to Luke Smith for a 40-yard touchdown. The Tigers got the 2-point conversion on a fake extra-point kick as Alex Gonzales ran it in behind the lead blocking of Aaron Balles. The Cardinals then got a good kickoff return and were able to score right before the half to tie the score at 14-all.

The second half was a defensive struggle by both teams, as the teams exchanged possessions on a couple of punts. Southside scored early in the fourth quarter to take a 21-14 lead. The Tigers never let up and played hard to try and regain the lead, but it just wasn’t their night.

Gaither, Smith, Cesar Hernandez, Masur, and Gonzales led the junior varsity team on the night and the season. The offensive line of Corey Opiela, Malik Lehmberg, Eric Chaves-Soliz, Diego Perez, Tyler Sanchez, and Jody Trevino played well all year.

Defensively, Smith, Tanner Hearne, Gaither, Gonzales, Masur, Jesus Carrizales, Sebastian Rodriguez, Trevino, Roland Aylesworth, and Carlos Cruz led the Tigers in this game. The Tigers finished the season 6-4, with a 4-3 district record. Congratulations, Tigers, and good luck on continued success.
