The Stockdale Blue Bonnet Club met Nov. 12 in the home of Charlin Akin. Members were served refreshments by Ms. Akin as they arrived for the regular monthly business meeting.

Bernice Person, president, called the meeting to order and Secretary Susan Cotter read the minutes of the October meeting, gave the Treasurer’s Report, and conducted the Roll Call.

Barbara Wiatrek, Community Project chairman, reported the Stockdale Garden Club will be responsible for placing the Christmas lights at the “Welcome to Stockdale” entrance at U.S. 87 and Main Street. Billie Jo Wolff, Nursing Home Bingo chairman, delivered Halloween candy on Oct. 31 for the nursing home staff to pass out to visitors and the club will again furnish bingo prizes on Jan. 29, 2013. Card Chairman Helen Deason sent 17 cards during October. The Social Committee reported the Christmas Outing will be Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Grist Mill in Gruene.

Club members will donate Christmas wrapping paper and scotch tape to the Sheriff Santa Project. Sue McLelland will collect and deliver the items.

The Christmas Project Committee was authorized $100 to be used for the Nursing Home Christmas Project for the residents of the Stockdale Nursing Center. Kay Deagen is chairman of the committee.

The Blue Bonnet Club voted to give a monetary donation to the Stockdale Project Graduation Fund for the 2012-13 senior class. Three members of the graduating class are sons of three members of the club. The seniors are Taylor Deason, Jordan Jackson, and Clayton Lynn.

The December meeting will be the Christmas Outing in Gruene. The January hostess will be Sharon West with Billie Jo Wolff to be in charge of the program. The January Nursing Home Visitor will be Gina Deason.

Teri Wolff, program leader, presented an informative program on Thanksgiving. Some interesting facts shared with the group include:

•The average travel mileage on Thanksgiving is 214 miles to and from the destination.

•There are 535 million pounds of turkey consumed on this day; and cranberries are the main fruit served on Thanksgiving.

•The Indians did not eat cranberries for their first Thanksgiving feast -- cranberries were used to dye their clothes and to treat arrow wounds.

•The first football game played on Thanksgiving Day was in 1876 with Yale playing Princeton.

In attendance for the meeting were Charlin Akin, Edith Akin, Judy Childress, Susan Cotter, Gina Deason, Helen Deason, Mary Denson, Mildred Kallies, Sandy Lynn, Sue McLelland, Bernice Person, Pat Rutland, Barbara Wiatrek, Billie Jo Wolff, and Teri Wolff.
