AUSTIN -- Working closely with legislators and stakeholders to build an efficient program that works smarter and is more accountable to taxpayers, Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples announced Pleasanton and Falls City are among the 2012 recipients of grant awards from the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Community Development Fund. Each year, these grants fund infrastructure projects that improve the quality of life for many rural Texans.

A $275,000 grant awarded to Falls City will provide the funding for sewer treatment plant improvements to bring the system into compliance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regulations by addressing erosion with the pond system lagoons. Construction shall include rehabilitation of the inner embankments of the sewer plant ponds including select backfill, geotextile liner, erosion protection, flow management system, and associated appurtenances. Construction will take place near the corner of Maverick and Hugo streets.

Pleasanton also was awarded a $275,000 grant to replace overloaded, breached clay sewer lines. Construction will include the installation of 1,926 linear feet of 15-inch sewer line, highway bore, eight manholes, service reconnections, and all necessary appurtenances. Construction will take place in the northeast part of the city on Austin, Third, and Fifth streets.

Eligible cities must have populations of less than 50,000 residents. This program serves approximately 1,000 eligible rural communities and 245 eligible rural counties. It also provides services to more than 375,000 low- to moderate-income beneficiaries each year.

The city manager is working on his resume'. After reading some of his memos, he might want to hire someone with a little better grammar etc to spice it up. Adios Andy. Thanks for the memories.

Sounds like the city manager needs to take a trip to these cities and get smart but it doesn't need to be an overnight trip with hotel and meals. Out problem is that we need competent city employees who know how to do these ... More ›
