Hazardous waste collection Dec. 1
The San Antonio River Authority (SARA) and Wilson County will sponsor a household hazardous waste collection event for Wilson County residents on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to noon at the La Vernia High School Annex Building at 305 Bluebonnet (F.M. 775) in La Vernia.
Residents can take the following household hazardous waste:
Automobile tires with no rims, acids, antifreeze, used motor oil and filters, pool chemicals, lawn and garden chemicals, and batteries, to name a few. Used electronics such as microwaves, blenders, toasters, televisions, monitors, and computer parts will also be accepted. In addition, pharmaceutical waste to include prescription and non-prescription meds, pet medications, inhalers, and vitamins will be accepted.
Items not to bring include:
Trailer, tractor, or tires with rims, agricultural chemicals, ammunition, explosives, scrap metals, large appliances, containers larger than 5 gallons, syringes, oxygen tanks, and more.
Materials will be collected on a first-come, first-served basis.
Supported by local volunteers, the event is being made possible by Wilson County and SARA with cooperation from the La Vernia Police Department, La Vernia Independent School District, the city of La Vernia, and Progressive Waste Solutions.
