Eagle Ford: Connally starts 2013 fiscal year with profitable October
Profitability continues to be the order of the day for the Connally Memorial Medical Center, as the Floresville-based hospital closed out the first month of the 2013 fiscal year with a net income of $1,217,996. This is according to a report presented to the Wilson Memorial Hospital District board by the hospital’s finance director, Pat Solis, at its Nov. 15 meeting.
According to the report, the hospital collected a total of $207,100 in non-operating income -- which includes $206,909 in property taxes and other subsidies and $191 for “other income -- exceeding budgetary projections by $7,974.
Solis cautioned that the hospital’s operating income was bolstered by the recent receipt of $1.2 million in meaningful-use Medicaid revenue. The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Jerome Brooks said these funds were awarded because Connally met key compliance mandates well ahead of a May 2013 deadline. The hospital previously had been awarded $200,000 in Medicare meaningful-use funds.
Also related to finance, Brooks said the hospital’s emergency room collected 100 percent of its billing -- $91,000 -- at the point-of-service for the month of October.
In other business, the board approved an orthopedic call coverage agreement with South Texas Regional Medical Center in Jourdanton.
**In attendance: Board members Ronnie Eckel, Sam Carter, Monica Flores, Amy Clark, Tommy Soriero, and Jimmy Fietsam; Chief of Staff Dr. Emily Frye, Chief Executive Officer Jerome Brooks, Finance Director Pat Solis, Administrative Assistant Shirley Bienek, Chief Nursing Officer Celeste Brizzee, and Karl Hittle of Endeavor Healthcare.
