LA VERNIA -- A 59-year-old truck driver from Seguin is dead following a three-vehicle wreck just before 2 p.m. Nov. 16 at the intersection of F.M. 775 and Blue Creek Road northeast of here. Charges had not been filed as of press time Nov. 19.
James Michael Skrzycki was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:56 p.m., said Trooper Jason Reyes, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol. While the crash is still under investigation, Reyes said troopers believe that Leigh Sumners of Adkins, who was driving a 2000 Ford F-150, failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign on Blue Creek Road. Her vehicle collided with the 1985 Chevrolet tanker truck that Skrzycki was driving northbound on F.M. 775.
The tanker -- which is owned by Floresville-based Smith Propane Gas Co. -- then was struck by a 2005 GMC Envoy being driven southbound on F.M. 775 by Shirley Wright of New Braunfels. The tanker subsequently rolled onto its left side, Reyes said.
Personnel from the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office and firefighters from New Berlin and Seguin assisted DPS at the scene.
