Floresville High School’s November female student of the month is Katherine Burkett. Katherine is the 17-year-old daughter of Greg and Sadonna Burkett.

Katherine has earned numerous honors in the classroom. She is currently vice president of the National Honor Society. As a freshman, Katherine represented Floresville at the De Soto Student Leadership Summit in Dallas. She was named to the “A” Honor Roll her sophomore year. As a member of the varsity golf team, she earned Academic All-District her sophomore year.

Katherine is active in numerous FHS organizations. As a member of the Mighty Tiger Band, Katherine has been chosen as favorite girl for her grade level the past three years and was the secretary last year. She is currently one of three FHS drum majors. In addition, she has been a leader among her peers. As a junior, Katherine served as Student Council reporter/historian, Student Council girl representative, and a prom committee member. As a freshman, she was a member of the Spanish Club. This year marks Katherine’s second year serving as a mentor to incoming freshmen through the Link Crew program.

Katherine still finds time to be active in the community. She is currently a princess for the 2012 Peanut Festival Royal Court, serving as an ambassador for the city at events across South Texas. Katherine is also active in her church youth group. She attended the New Mexico and Arlington mission trips with her church group. She also served as a praise band leader and a Vacation Bible School leader. Katherine has also been in the Leo Club.

Upon graduation, Katherine plans to attend Texas Tech University or Baylor University, where she will major in business.

The November male student of the month is William Smith. William is the 18-year-old son of William and Gerry Smith.

William has excelled in the classroom and has earned recognition for his efforts. He has been named to both the “A/B” Honor Roll and the “A” Honor Roll. He has also been recognized for perfect attendance. William is a member in good standing with the National Honor Society. He is currently taking several dual credit courses and is in the top quartile of his class.

William has been very active in FHS athletics. He has been a member of the football, track, and golf teams.
