‘Passport for Learning’
By Clayton Lynn
On Nov. 5, Stockdale High School held “A Passport For Learning.” The whole point was for students’ parents to get to know the teachers that their children interact with on a day-to-day basis. The students and their parents traveled from class to class based on the students’ schedule and each teacher gave a 5-minute spiel about his/her classroom activities.
There was a three-minute passing period where the parents commented on the fact that they had trouble getting from class to class (this was probably due in part to the fact that they stopped to visit). Each student was given a “passport” that the teachers would stamp at the beginning of each session. At the end of the night, if the student had all eight periods stamped, their passport was placed into a raffle where the student could win prizes.
Thanks to the class of 2012, there were many items donated for the event. The raffle items ranged from gift cards to a flat-screen TV. The big winner (a 32-inch flat-screen TV) was James Miller. All in all, the turnout was very good, and many students went home with smiles on their faces after winning some great prizes.
Stockdale High School senior Clayton Lynn swims for his school and participates in UIL calculator, computer science, and one-act play. The junior journalist is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is the son of Michael and Sandy Lynn. His college plans include studying biology and attending medical school; he hopes to become a doctor.
