Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. H.M. “Monte” Tomerlin, a longtime resident of Floresville, Texas, passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at 9:34 p.m. in his residence in Floresville, at the age of 88 years, 1 month, and 19 days. Monte was born Sept. 24, 1924, in Devine, the son of Jessie Martin and Erie Lucy Butts Tomerlin.

He worked in sales with Capital Cement for many years, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, during World War II and the Korean War. Monte was a Master Mason with the Floresville Masonic Lodge and a member of the St. Mark United Methodist Church in San Antonio.

Monte was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Boyce Mathis Tomerlin; his second wife, Joyce Hill Tomerlin; brother Hubert Tomerlin; and sister Lucille Franke.

He is survived by his best friend, Janice Coley of San Antonio; children Monte D. Tomerlin of Los Angeles, Calif., Ann C. Fletcher and husband James of Elmendorf, Martin B. Tomerlin of San Antonio, Mary A. Brittian of Amarillo, Jo E. McCracken of Arizona, Leisha Mogford and husband David of Canyon, and Billy Hill of San Antonio; siblings Bill Tomerlin and wife Sandy of Mansfield and Joyce Codd of San Antonio; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and friends.

Visitation was held Saturday, Nov. 17, at 9 a.m. with funeral services at 11 a.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville, officiated by the Rev. Jay Brown.

Interment followed in the Tomerlin Cemetery in Devine.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wilson County Public Library, 1 Library Lane, Floresville, TX 78114.
