1913-2012

Rose Snoga Rotter passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, in the John Paul II Nursing Home in Kenedy, Texas. She was born in Kosciusko on Aug. 7, 1913, to Louis and Susie Mutz Snoga.

Rose grew up in Kosciusko. She married Leonard Rotter Sr. of Poth on June 28, 1936, in Floresville. They made their home in Poth, and were active members of the Sons of Hermann Poth Lodge for decades. She was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth, and a member of the Blessed Sacrament Altar Society. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Anna Poth, for more than 60 years.

Rose’s home was always open to neighbors, friends, and relatives. She welcomed everyone at the door with her familiar, “What can I get you?” Rose held her family closest to her heart, often baby-sitting her grandchildren, attending their school events, and sharing heart-to-heart talks with them on her front porch. To family and friends, she was affectionately known as “Gee.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of more than 60 years, Leonard Rotter Sr.; and her grandson, Emery John Opiela; as well as two sisters, Philomena Kasprczyk and Cecile Jarzombek.

Rose is survived by her daughter, Elaine Opiela and husband Emrick of Karnes City; her sons, Leonard Rotter Jr. and wife Megan, Emmett Rotter, and Tony Rotter and wife Janis, all of Poth; as well as her sister, Jean Gorka of San Antonio. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Eva Lloyd and husband Patrick, Eric Opiela and wife Lara, Shane Rotter, Heidi Byrom and husband Brian, Frank Rotter and wife Amanda, Sterling Rotter, Clay Rotter, Craig Rotter, Summer Soule and husband Patrick, and Jillian Seerden and husband Andrew; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Monday, Nov. 19, at 5 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m in the Vinyard Funeral Home in Poth.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Church in Poth, with the Rev. Gregory Szewczyk officiating.

Interment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Cemetery in Poth.

Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons, Craig Rotter, Eric Opiela, Shane Rotter, Frank Rotter, Sterling Rotter, and Clay Rotter.

Memorial donations may be made to the Emery John Opiela Seminary Burse, Archdiocese of San Antonio, 2718 W. Woodlawn, San Antonio, TX 78228, or to the charity of one’s choice.
