Edna Minnie Schroeder
Edna Minnie Schroeder passed away on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, Thanksgiving Day, in the Floresville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she had resided for four years. Born in Pandora, Texas, on Feb. 28, 1915, she was the daughter of Hugo and Clara Kretzschmar.
Edna moved to the Black Hill community with her family when she was three and attended Black Hill School for five years. She married Walter Schroeder of Floresville in 1936 and they raised their family of four children on their farm in Black Hill. She took extreme pride in her home and beautiful yard until moving to Floresville at the age of 89. A loving and devoted wife and mother, she found it necessary to find work outside the home during the drought of the ’50s and worked at Sears Roebuck and Co. for 20 years.
Edna was baptized, confirmed, and married in First Lutheran Church and was active in the Women of the Church, the Home Demonstration Club, Black Hill Grange, Texas Farm Bureau, Hochheim Prairie Insurance, and Sons of Hermann Lodge. She was deeply honored when she was named the first Granger of the Year. She enjoyed entertaining and playing dominoes and card games with friends and family, and traveling to Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Russia and most of the 50 states. She loved antiquing and shopping for dishes to fill her china cabinets and spent many hours creating beautiful embroidered pieces for her home.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Floresville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care of Edna, and to extend their deepest appreciation to the Helping Hands of First Lutheran and to all who so generously provided food, many acts of kindness, and their time and service for the family during this time of loss.
