I thought we were supposed to be thinking positive and moving forward? MOVE FORWARD, EX-mayor!!!! Is this how you are going to live the rest of your life??? Still trying to get your way??? And Castillo, don't be having secret meetings with the ex mayor or is it planning sessions? He does not have the support anymore!!! And you are no longer the majority, either. GET OVER YOURSELF!!! You have shown your true colors and have no respect either. And Gomez will be out soon. MOVE ON YOU THREE!!!

It is true. They did cancel the Tejano Extravaganza ;( So sad that our new city council & Mayor could not see the positive in this event. I believe the event was possibly going to be in the negative red. I know the City of Floresville is not in the entertainment business. I also know that because of cancelled contracts the City is going to have to pay @ $43,000 of cancelled contract fees. I
hear they had 109=$5450 tickets sold & 450 committed sponsorships= $22,000 along with an HEB sponsorship for $10,000. It's simple math if they would have gone forward with the event it would have been a much smaller loss & we the citizens of Floresville would have had a great time as a community at this event. That is why we need to make decisions for the better of the community & not for Political reasons. That is all !

Well there is the problem; as long as Andy, Margaret, Monica, and Fonda are still in their positions the EX-mayor will know everything! I think it's time to replace these individuals with those that will know what they are doing!

The EX-Mayor will never admit to something being his fault or cancelled because of true meanings. He will always scare the people with the tactics of "the tax payer will be paying" and "THOSE 3". MOVE ON EX-MAYOR, MOVE ON!!

The Holiday Extravaganza is a successful event. In fact, donations have been made to the Girl Scouts, and the Parks Foundation.
The City participates in many events. The Holiday Extravaganza was the only one eliminated.
It is important to know that the refunds owed will come out of the City's General Fund. That means we as property tax payers pay for this cancelled event. You may not hear it from the 3 - Morones , Miller , Guerrero.
Please don't even take my word for it . Call the Comptroller or the City Manager. Instead of letting ticket buyers and sponsors pay for the event , the general public is paying.
Further , the City is paying the attorney to find a way to negotiate a price for an event that was scheduled 12 days from now.
Call Andy, verify ..these are the facts.
The taxpayers will foot the bill ....

Danny, why don't you just go out quietly into the night? Stay out of it for awhile, ok? You are not doing any good by starting to criticize the new mayor and council. Do you want to lose more respect, if there is any left for you? You had your 6 years, let them have theirs. But as long as Margaret still works for the city you will continue to have access to city information. The council did not have the correct copies of the contracts and Margaret did. She is up to her dirty tricks again. Andy, I think it is time to release her from her position. Besides, when she was demoted she did not lose any pay. That is not right!

Why was it cancelled if not for financial reasons? We were at the meeting and when financials were being discussed, it was the right thing to do. You know, when you said that the experts were telling you that the city had plenty of money, who were those experts? Going to the financial workshops, we came away with the opinion that the city does not have enough money for the needs. Bring in those experts. But, that's ok. We are putting good people on boards and the city is headed in a new, better direction. Lots of questions are going to be asked and lots of good answers are going to be expected. The city is NOT in the business of throwing parties that don't make a profit!!

The unknown is how much is spent at restaurants, shops,stores during this weekend. The event is a sell out show that brings people from all over Texas as well as guests from Illinois, Wisconsin,Michigan, and even last year from Alaska.
It is a formal holiday gala. A meal is served at your table, and table service is provided much of the night.
The event was becoming a holiday tradition for local residents and visitors from throughout the U.S.
The advertising expenses up to the point of cancellation , absolutely "0".

The event was not cancelled due to financial reaasons.

So the ex-mayor has put on his Facebook that Morones, Guerrero, and Miller have cost the taxpayers of Floresville $100,000. Let's review the facts: the $60,000 is based on a tax rate passed by the former council. The ex-mayor at city expense mailed out a letter to city residents listing his accomplishments. He neglected to include the tax rate that was approved during his tenure. Additionally, Mr. Miller was not a council member when the tax rate was passed. So this council had nothing to do with the $60,000. Based on information from the last council meeting, the Extravaganza was forecast to lose $50,000. So by spending $43,000.00 to cancel the Extravaganza the council actually saved the city almost $7,000.00. It was also reported that the city lost money at the Ray Price concert. The Extravaganza lost money last year.

These expenses are paid for by the hotel-motel tax which is not property tax nor sales tax. In discussion at the council meeting where the Extravaganza was cancelled, the primary reason given was a more effective use of the hotel-motel tax than paying for non-profitable events.

What this means, Tejada, is that you are going to have to pay for your own birthday party and wedding. The days of the city paying for your parties are long gone!!!

I can assure you the Mayor, Mr Miller, Mr Guerrero and Mr Morones will stick to the charter and do the right thing if he can't seem to make important meetings. This new crew wont be allow it to happen like the old Mayor did.

Only Gomez was missing the whole time, probably because of his work schedule. It all sounds very encouraging to see that they are making a great effort to get to know the business of the city. It should help when they have very important decisions to make. Was this ever done by the previous mayor? Probably not, he was very good at keeping things to himself and only sharing with a select few. But that is all past, water under the bridge. Congratulations Mayor Garza and the rest of the council and city employees. Good job.

So I assume Mr. Gomez is no longer a council member. When is the special election for his unfilled seat or can someone be appointed? I guess Mrs. Castillo thought she already knew about these laws so she was not needing to attend. Maybe she will resign as well. Maybe the city attorney and city manager should of been there as well. Hopefully these new council will find a qualified city manager!
