FLORESVILLE -- The city’s newly elected mayor and three members of the Floresville City Council now have a renewed understanding of laws related to open meetings and open records, following a Nov. 26 workshop session.

The workshop included training videos related to the Open Meetings Act and the Open Records Act -- which are found in Sections 551 and 552, respectively, of the state’s government code. Both sections require that elected officials must complete such training within the first 90 days after taking the oath of office.

The morning workshop was one of three daytime council meetings scheduled for the week. The council was set to meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27, to receive presentations by City Manager Andy Joslin and city department heads, which relate to “descriptions of program activities and relative funding requirements,” according to the agenda.

A Wednesday, Nov. 28, meeting of the council, set for 1:30 p.m., is a workshop related to strategic planning, goals, and objectives. Agendas for both meetings can be found at the city’s website and at http://bit.ly/NfYUqY.

As of press time Nov. 26, the council was set to hold a regular meeting Thursday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m.

**In attendance: Mayor Diana Garza and councilmen Jim Miller, Mario Morones, and John W. Guerrero; City Manager Andy Joslin, City Secretary Sherry Pollok, and Comptroller Lara Feagins.

Mine got removed also. Probably my comment about out of state people that come to the Extravaganza are Danny's relatives. Nothing more inflamatory than the truth.

Danny, how do you say this event is good for Floresville, when it has lost money the last few years? Maybe if you had some legit folks running concessions and ticket sales, you may have made a profit on your birthday extravaganza. ... More ›

To FTP: it is NOT the job of the city to entertain you at a loss. That is what is wrong with this city, the mentality of putting on a show even though there is a loss. What business can survive like that??? Oh let's do this ... More ›
