Musical Club gives thanks for troops
Musical Club members gather for their November meeting in the First Lutheran Church in Floresville.
The Floresville Musical Club met for its monthly meeting on Nov. 13 in the First Lutheran Church in Floresville with 62 members and guests signing the guest book.
A patriotic theme with emphasis on thanksgiving to our troops in the armed services was carried out throughout the afternoon. The meeting was opened with the pledge of allegiance to the flag led by Sarah Gella followed by the “Star Spangled Banner,” sung by Bonnie Byrne.
President Peggy Tipton welcomed all the members and their guests. She then introduced the hostesses: Carolyn Bump, Ruby Manen, Linda Gail Blair, Zabrina Bradburn, Rhea Nell Rogers, Rita Gardner, Sarah Gella, Jacqui Jenkins, Jo Ann Munoz, Diana Garcia, Mary Ann Avilez, Jeanine Livingston, and Sophia Rodriguez.
Glynda Merritt, club representative on the Peanut Festival board, then presented Lindsey Wilson, the club’s representative in the coronation and parade, with a gift. Glynda then thanked everyone that helped make the Queen’s Dinner a success, especially Paul and Nancy Traeger for providing their beautiful home for the event. Glynda then turned in her resignation from the board. She will be missed as she has done a great job for many years. Taking her place will be Sarah Gella and Carolyn Bump.
Lydia Martinez presented vocalist Bonnie Byrne, who entertained us with a medley of patriotic songs.
Lydia then asked the president of the Peanut Festival, Rhea Nell Rogers, to present the Royal Court. The ladies were dazzled with the beautiful gowns that the girls wore. Each girl then gave the theme of her dress, introduced her seamstress, and told what it meant to her to be in the Royal Court.
Peggy reminded the ladies that next month will be the time for the benevolent offering. The meeting was then adjourned with a prayer.
A social time followed with the tables decorated with beautiful fall centerpieces. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostesses.
