Floresville FFA’s leadership teams competed Nov. 6 in the Guadalupe Valley District FFA Leadership Contests, held at Marion Middle School. Floresville sent five teams to the district contest and had three of them qualify for area. Each of these teams is very unique in that they all have a completely different audience and topic of discussion.

This year, the FFA Public Relations topic was regarding a service organization. The FFA Public Relations team of Taylor Wall, Jewel Jimenez, Brielle Brown, and Rachel Miksch placed first at district competition and advanced to area.

Radio Broadcasting had the intriguing topic of the oil industry and how it is affecting the Floresville area because of the Eagle Ford shale. The Radio Broadcasting team of Haley Wares, Emerald Starling, and Jade Lopez also placed first in district to advance them to area.

Agricultural Advocacy made a presentation to the American Food Consumer and showed them how their food is made and processed. The Agricultural Advocacy team of Katy Eaton, Kristin Greer, Kaitlin Casanova, and Alex Morris placed second and also advanced to the area contest.

Competing in FFA Creed Speaking was Julie Rakowitz, who placed fourth. Julie had to recite the FFA Creed and then answer questions about the creed.

Lauren Moon competed in Job Interview. In Lauren’s contest, she went through the steps to interview for a job from creating a resume to a phone interview to a job interview itself.

The Area Contest was held Nov. 12 at Blanco High School. The Radio Broadcasting team placed ninth; the Agricultural Advocacy team, third; and the FFA Public Relations team placed first.

The FFA Public Relations team will advance to the state contest to be held at Sam Houston State University Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. This is the second year in a row that Floresville will be attending state contest in FFA Public Relations and the fifth out of eight years that Floresville has gone to state.

We congratulate all Floresville FFA Chapter Leadership teams on their achievements and wish the Public Relations team good luck at State!

Floresville FFA advisors and team coaches are Mark Jarzombek and Mike Billings.

There are good kids in Floresville, they may not be kings, queens or sports stars, but we do have some who excel!
