Velma Earline Rice passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at the age of 93 years. She was born March 14, 1919, in Angleton, Texas, to Tony L. and Florence Estella (McLean) Lambert.

Velma was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was in the church choir. She worked with and was an officer in the local district and state PTA, as well as the Historical Society of Wilson County and the Chamber of Commerce.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jim Rice and Mart West; her parents; son-in-law Clayton Lynn; daughter-in-law Rose West; grandson Clayton Alan Lynn; brothers Tommy Lambert, Tony Lambert, Travis Lambert, Morris Eugene “Bubby” Lambert, and Jack Lambert; and sisters Marie Martin, Eula Barton, Martha Hance, and Fleda Bellgard.

Velma is survived by her daughter, Shirley Lambeck and husband Carl of Stockdale; son Lester West of Poth; grandchildren Mark Lynn and wife Donna and Mike Lynn and wife Sandy, all of Stockdale, and Leslie Thomas and husband Mark and Wesley West and wife Lisa, all of Poth; great-grandchildren James Clayton Lynn, “J.C.” Jonathan Irwin Lynn of Stockdale, Allison Tillman-Young and husband Noah of San Antonio, Clayton Thomas Lynn and Karlye Miranda Lynn of Stockdale, Sarah Lynn Rangel and husband T.J. of Stockdale, Conner, Madison, and Olivia West of Poth, and Shianne and Tanner Thomas of Poth; great-great-grandchildren Isaiah and Addison Rangel of Stockdale and Selah Lynn Tillman-Young of San Antonio; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 2, from 1-3 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale.

A funeral service was held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Gary Irwin officiating.

Interment followed in the Steele Branch Cemetery in Stockdale.

Memorial donations may be made to Stockdale EMS, 111 S.H. 123, Stockdale, TX 78160.
