William Presley ‘Pres’ Thomson
William Presley “Pres” Thomson passed from this world into the Lord’s hands on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012. Pres lived in Lewisville, Texas, and at the time of his death was in the UT Southwest Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Crowell on Aug. 11, 1930, to Walter and Ruth Thomson.
Pres grew up in Crowell and graduated from high school at the age of 16. While growing up, he enjoyed fishing and horseback riding, and excelled in football. He operated heavy machinery building stock tanks, roads, and loading gravel. He also worked the family farm with his dad.
After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on a destroyer as a “torpedoman” during the Korean War. Upon his return, he married his sweetheart, Frankie Janelle Mabe, on Jan. 2, 1955. He began his career in the Highway Patrol in 1956 and he and Frankie had two children, Mike and Jeri. Throughout his career, he had several duty assignments coinciding with promotions. He retired at the rank of major with 38 years of service and was highly respected and appreciated by all who had an opportunity to work with him.
Pres and Frankie moved to Cedar Creek Lake, where they spent 11 years enjoying all the aspects of life on the lake. They had recently moved to Lewisville to be closer to family at the time of his death. Pres was a wonderful son, husband, father, and granddad. He was always ready to help his family and demonstrated his love in many, many ways. He was a man of integrity and he met very few in his life that didn’t recognize his leadership and abilities immediately. He will be greatly missed until our heavenly reunion, said his family.
Pres was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ray Thomson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Frankie; son Mike Thomson and wife Lisa of San Angelo; daughter Jeri Fouts and husband Winston of Lewisville; four grandchildren, Kara Duke and husband Guy, Megan Carroll and husband Dan, James Fouts and wife Brooke, and Joe Fouts; and five great-grandchildren with another on the way.
A family graveside service was held on Friday, Nov. 23, at 2:15 p.m. in the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity or church of one’s choice in Presley’s name.
