Lose it with Weight Watchers
Are you looking for a healthy and effective way to lose weight? Then join Ruth Stroud at 6 p.m. every Monday in the American Legion Post No. 38 at 1412 Fourth St. in Floresville as she leads Weight Watchers meetings. Ruth will be the 94-year- young woman displaying a name tag that says, “I lost 100 pounds in 1972.”
Actually, Ruth lost 104 pounds in August 1972 as a result of joining Weight Watchers in order to look good for her son’s wedding. Ruth wanted to look good as she walked down the aisle for this great occasion, so she lost 35 pounds in time for the wedding. She said that afterwards she thought, “Oh boy, I’ll start eating again.” After thinking about how she had lost weight and gained it back over the years for family and class reunions, vacations, and doctor’s orders, Ruth figured she had lost at least 1,000 pounds!
She realized she had always lost weight for someone or something else, and since she had lost 35 pounds for the wedding, she decided she had to lose the rest for herself. As Ruth set out on her weight-loss journey, she knew it would not be easy. But, she would have the support of her Weight Watchers group, so she set a goal to lose 69 additional pounds. She was able to reach her goal during her first year with Weight Watchers, for a total of 104 pounds.
Ruth gives credit to Weight Watchers for keeping the weight off. She learned about healthy eating and says she also learned that there is more to life than food.
