Eagle Ford: Hospital OKs medical director agreement
Management of the Connally Memorial Medical Center’s wound care and hyperbaric services will cost $16,667 per month, under a three-year agreement approved during a Nov. 29 special meeting of the Wilson Memorial Hospital District board.
The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Jerome Brooks said following the meeting that a medical director for these services has not yet been chosen and that talks with local providers are ongoing.
“The approval of this agreement allows us to be able to make an offer to them,” he said.
The duties of the medical director, Brooks said, would include “supervising patients that are undergoing hyperbaric oxygen treatment, as well as evaluating patients for chronic wound care.”
Prior to the board reaching its decision, Brooks strayed from the meeting’s agenda for several minutes to brief the board on the status of the hospital’s recruiting initiatives, including the following:
•Dr. Devraj Nayak has transitioned into Connally’s cardiology clinic.
•Dr. David Santiago is now working with Dr. Darryl Currier at Family Medical Centers in Floresville, La Vernia, and Stockdale.
•Dr. George Elias is a “very strong gastroenterology candidate.”
•Dr. Eric Miller, a pain management physician, might lease space in Connally’s multispecialty clinic.
***In attendance: Board members Ronnie Eckel, Sam Carter, Jimmy Fietsam, Amy Clark, and Keith Johanson; Chief of Staff Dr. Emily Frye, Administrative Assistant Shirley Bienek, and Chief Executive Officer Jerome Brooks; and Karl Hittle of Endeavor Healthcare.
