On Dec. 7, it will be two years since anyone has seen Pauline Cantu Diaz of San Antonio. It was on that day in 2010 that the then-63-year-old great-grandmother failed to return home from her job at the H-E-B supermarket near the intersection of Goliad Road and Southeast Military Drive in San Antonio.

Diaz’s white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was subsequently recovered in a lot near the intersection of U.S. 181 and C.R. 320 north of Floresville. Her estranged husband, Pedro Ruiz -- who lived nearby -- claims to be the last one to have seen Diaz that afternoon. Family members reported that Diaz had planned to file for divorce.

Sheriff’s deputies from Bexar and Wilson counties, along with Texas Rangers, since have combed miles of ground in both counties in search of clues. Leads have been in short supply. Wilson County Sheriff Joe D. Tackitt Jr. said the most recent lead came “a few months ago.” The tip was pursued by Chief Deputy Johnie Deagen, but it did not yield any results.

“It’s still an open case,” Tackitt said. “Anything that does come in, we follow up on it.”

San Antonio-based private investigator Charlie Parker, who was hired by Diaz’s children, said that a woman seen on the store’s surveillance video talking to Diaz before leaving the parking lot on Dec. 7, 2010, has been located. While Rangers interviewed the woman, Parker said it is not known if any leads resulted from the conversation.

Parker is now asking for any school bus drivers who passed through the intersection of U.S. 181 and C.R. 320 that day to come forward.

Parker said psychics also have been hired in an attempt to locate Diaz, and a cadaver dog will be brought in next week to conduct a search at an undisclosed location.

Diaz’s family members -- except Ruiz -- continue to keep the case visible on television and in area newspapers. Parker believes that Ruiz could shed additional light on the case if he were to go public with what he might know.

But in the time since Diaz has disappeared, Ruiz was granted a divorce, said Rufus Martinez, who is married to Diaz’s daughter, Paula. Ruiz also has filed a lawsuit against Diaz’s family, in an attempt to take possession of several items of her property, along with the home they shared on Flores Oaks north of Floresville.

Martinez said the lack of closure on this case continues to take its toll on his wife and the rest of the family.

“Pauline was a very nice person to me,” he said. “She was a wonderful person. I’m lucky to have a mother-in-law like that.”

Tackitt also said a reward from Crime Stoppers of Wilson County still is being offered for information leading to Diaz’s return. All Crime Stoppers tips remain anonymous.

Diaz was last seen wearing her red H-E-B uniform polo shirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers. She is a Hispanic female, described as 4 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing approximately 135 pounds. Diaz has gray hair, brown eyes, and wears wire-rimmed glasses.

Family members continue to hold out hope that Diaz will return home. A Facebook page and the http://paulinediaz.com website continue to generate hits. According to the website, a reward being offered for information leading to Diaz’s whereabouts or information about those involved in her disappearance has climbed to $20,000.
