Retired school superintendent and former State Representative Eldon Edge Sr. passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012. Eldon was born on his family ranch in Kendalia, Texas, on March 15, 1926.

He spent his childhood days running up and down the Pedernales River and going to a one-house school in Spicewood. After graduating from high school he entered the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Afterwards, he used the G.I. Bill and graduated from Texas State Teachers College with a chemistry degree. His first teaching job was in Hallettsville, where he met his future wife, Shirley Jansky.

Eldon taught for several years and during this period he obtained his master’s degree in school administration. He subsequently served as a school superintendent for several schools, including Wortham ISD, Riesel ISD, Comfort ISD, and Poth ISD. He was always very active in all community affairs, but his favorite always seemed to be the Lions Club. After retiring, he continued to serve the state of Texas as a state representative for District 45 (1985-90).

Eldon loved people and was a true servant to the people. He touched so many people’s lives and will be missed. The angels of heaven have a new member, said his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his mother and father, Minnie and Clyde; and his brothers, Ted and Lyle.

Eldon is survived by his four sons, Eldon and wife Susan, Darrell and wife Virginia, Dana, and Duwayne and wife Delma; his grandchildren, Ingrid Petty and husband Jason, Rachel Kiker and husband Jon, Trista, and James; and his great-granddaughters, Valentine, Veronica, Margaret, Carmen, and Claudia.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m. in the main chapel of the Kerrville Funeral Home in Kerrville.

Interment followed in the Edge Cemetery in Kendalia.

Memorials may be made to Texas Lions Camp, P.O. Box 290247, Kerrville, TX 78029.
