Karnes/Wilson Juvenile Probation Department is seeking the following positions: Juvenile Probation Officer: Must be degreed in Criminal Justice or related field with experience working with children and parents. Position is year round supervising juvenile offenders, making recommendations to court, curfew checks, and being on call. Attendance/Juvenile Probation Officer: Must be degreed in Criminal Justice or related field with experience working with children and parents. The Attendance Officer works same hours as the school districts providing prevention services to children and parents who have issues with truancy. Juvenile Probation Officer will manage a small caseload of juvenile offenders making recommendations to court, curfew checks, and being on call. Position is year round.  Individual must be versatile and able to separate prevention from intervention skills. Prevention Specialist: Position acts as a drill instructor within the environment of the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP). Follows JJAEP school calendar. This is a quasi-military program, so prior military experience a plus. Degreed individual preferred with experience working with children. Must be a Juvenile Supervision Officer or be able to obtain the certification. Administrative Prevention Specialist: Position acts as a drill instructor but takes on administrative assistant role to the Assistant Chief within the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP). Position will include direct contact with the child and parent. Must be a Juvenile Supervision Officer or able to obtain. Prefer degreed individual. Must have knowledge of military procedures. Ruby Lee Grier Pawelek, a lifelong resident of Wilson and Karnes counties, entered eternal rest Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at 5:42 a.m. in her residence in Falls City, Texas, at the age of 87 years, 8 months, and 7 days. Ruby was born March 27, 1925, in San Antonio, the daughter of Alexander and Gertrude Kolodziej Grier.

She graduated from Poth High School, class of 1942, followed by the Durham Business School, and was the owner and operator of the Palace Cafe in Falls City for many years. Ruby was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Falls City. The family thanks Paula Moehrig, Kim Barrier, and Raynell Odem for their special care of Ruby.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Leander Leonard Sr.; her daughter, Darnell Rodriguez; her son, Leander Leonard Jr.; her brothers, J. D. Grier (MIA, World War II), and A.J. Grier; her sister, Nell Rose Monroe; and her granddaughter, Jamie Sutton.

Ruby is survived by her husband, James Lucian Pawelek of Falls City; her children, Charlotte Noble and husband Earl of New Braunfels, Vickie Zidek and husband Alan of Falls City, Gwynie Moczygemba and husband Roy of Falls City, Nell Steffek and husband Leonard of Loyal, Okla., and Trudy Jones and husband Charles of Poth; her son-in-law, Robert Rodriguez of Poth; her daughter-in-law, Sherry Leonard of Falls City; her grandchildren, Bobby Rodriguez and wife Pam, Cindy Rodriguez, Robin Alfaro and husband Martin, Terry William and husband Harvey, Robin Style and husband Dave, Jonathan Zidek, Lee Leonard and Stacie Leonard, Michele Connolly and husband Matt, Nicole Meyer and husband Marvin, Toni Steffek, Tracy Walsh and husband Jason, Tamera Snyder, Christer Steffek, and Michael Steffek, and Gordon Jones, Joshua Jones, and Lauren Jones; her adopted son, Mario Perez; her brother-in-law, Chuck Monroe; her sister-in-law, Lenoice Grier; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 5 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Falls City.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. in the church officiated by the Rev. Gregory Sawicki.

Interment followed in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Falls City.

Serving as pallbearers were Robert Rodriguez, Earl Noble, Alan Zidek, Roy Moczygemba, Leonard Steffek, Charles Jones, and Mario Perez.
