The Floresville FFA has had another successful leadership season. The FFA Public Relations team has been competing this fall and has done a great job at all of the contests they have participated in. This year’s team members include Jewel Jimenez, Taylor Wall, Brielle Brown, and Rachel Miksch.

The team competed Nov. 6 in the Guadalupe Valley District contest and placed first in district, which advanced them to the Area VII contest. This is the third year in a row for the team from Floresville to win district.

The team competed Nov. 12 in the Area VII Leadership Contest and again placed first, which advanced them to the state contest. This is the second time the team from Floresville has won the Area VII contest.

The team traveled Nov. 30 to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville to participate in the Texas FFA State Leadership Contests. The state contest consists of two semifinal rounds where a team must place in the top five in order to advance to the finals. There are a total of 20 teams from all over the state at the state contest. Floresville finished the semifinal round in third place and advanced to the finals.

The state finals were held Dec. 1 and again the team competed against 10 teams and finished the finals in fourth place.

There were 316 teams that competed in district contests from all over the state this fall and Floresville’s team is the fourth best in the state.

This is the fifth time for the FFA Public Relations team from Floresville to compete at state, having previously competed in 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2011. The team has finished in the top 10 every year it has participated in the state contest.

Floresville High School ag teachers and team coaches are Mark Jarzombek and Mike Billings.

For more information about the FFA, contact the Floresville High School Ag Department at 830-393-5370.

Taylor Wall is the reporter for the Floresville FFA.

Editor’s note: According to the Floresville Independent School District website, “This is the highest an FFA Public Relations team from Floresville has ever placed in the Texas FFA State Leadership contest finals.”
