AUSTIN -- The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has added Charles Leon Carr, 55, to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender list, and a $3,000 cash reward is now offered for information leading to his capture. In 1975, he was sentenced to 99 years in prison for the violent sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl in Abilene. He was released from prison in 2008 and disappeared in 2009. All tips can be offered anonymously.

Carr was born in New Jersey, his last known residence was in Austin, and he has ties to El Paso. He could be working in air conditioning repair, refrigerator repair, machine operation, data entry or as a laborer. Carr’s criminal history includes Sexual Assault of a Child, Transportation of Unlawful Aliens and Theft. He is wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service for Probation Violation and by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles for Parole Violation.

Carr is 6 feet tall and weighs about 190 pounds. His tattoos include a skull on his outside upper right arm and skull/dagger/roses on his outside upper left arm. He also has an operation scar on the inside of his right knee and a cut scar his inside right hand. For more information, please view his wanted poster at:
http://www.dps.texas.gov/Texas10MostWanted/SexOffenderDetails.aspx?id=172.

Texas Crime Stoppers, which is funded by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division, offers cash rewards to any person who provides information that leads to the arrest of one of the Texas 10
Most Wanted fugitives or sex offenders. There are four different ways to provide anonymous tips:
Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
Text the letters DPS--followed by your tip--to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cell phone.
Submit a web tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you have information about, and then clicking on the link under their picture.
Submit a Facebook tip at http://www.facebook.com/texas10mostwanted by clicking the “SUBMIT A TIP” link (under the “About” section).

The following link, http://bit.ly/VqydsJ, explains the steps on how to submit a tip regarding a Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive or Sex Offender and/or how to receive a reward once the fugitive is captured. All calls, texts, e-mails and Facebook messages are anonymous.

DPS investigators work with local law enforcement agencies to select fugitives for the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive and Sex Offender lists. You can find the current lists--with photos--on the DPS website at http://www.dps.texas.gov/texas10mostwanted/.

Do not attempt to apprehend these fugitives; they are considered armed and dangerous.
