Rosie Merecka Norris
Rosie Merecka Norris, a lifelong resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at 1:15 a.m. in the Legend Oaks of Plum Creek Nursing Center in Kyle at the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 14 days. Rosie was born Dec. 27, 1934, in Wilson County, the daughter of Joseph and Annie Gaertner Merecka.
She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at the scales (Lubianski’s). Rosie loved gardening and traveling to Louisiana to visit the casinos, but most of all she loved music and socializing.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Lillie Chilek, Emil Merecka, William Merecka, Adolph Merecka, August Merecka, and Viola Sralla; and her sister and brothers-in-law, Valentine Chilek, Lydia Merecka, and Albert Sralla.
Rosie is survived by her beautiful daughter, Dechelle Lagares and husband Tony of Kyle; her precious grandchildren, Harper Lagares, Marley Lagares, Samuel Lagares, and Annie Lagares; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation was held on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 4 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, officiated by the Rev. Phillip Henning.
Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Floresville.
Serving as pallbearers were Albert Chilek, Leonard Sralla, Glenn Merecka, Marty Chilek, Vaughn Merecka, and Jeff Sralla.
