Police charge man with theft
FLORESVILLE -- Freddie Ortiz II, 26, of Floresville is free on $7,500 bond, following his Dec. 7 arrest, according to Wilson County Jail records. He is charged with one count of theft of service worth more than $20,000 but less than $100,000.
Detective George Ortiz of the Floresville Police Department said the suspect allegedly wrote several business checks from “Triple V Construction,” which were purported to belong to a Wells Fargo account. The detective said the business was not legitimate and that there was no money in the account. Despite this, the suspect and an accomplice -- identified as his wife, Sherry Ortiz -- allegedly cashed several checks totaling $52,000 at H-E-B in Floresville.
The detective said H-E-B reported the incidents to police after the duo attempted to open a second account for Triple V Construction at the First Convenience Bank branch, located inside the store. A warrant has been issued for Sherry Ortiz’s arrest.
Police believe that other area businesses could have fallen victim to this scam. Anyone who received checks from Triple V Construction is asked to call Detective George Ortiz at the Floresville Police Department at 830-393-4055.
