La Vernia FFA teams advance to state leadership contests

Twenty-two members of the La Vernia FFA competed in the Area VII FFA Leadership Contest Nov. 12, with two teams placing first and advancing to state competition.

Both the Senior and Junior Quiz teams placed first in area competition.

The Senior Quiz team is comprised of Zachary Balcar, Dalton Dennehy, Samantha Kravitz, and Emily Mollenkopf .

The Junior Quiz team is comprised of Elizabeth Moczygemba, Jennifer Escamilla, David Stoloski, and Hayden Chall.

Individually, Jennifer Escamilla placed first-high; Samantha and Elizabeth placed second-high; and Emily placed sixth-high. All of the members of the quiz teams were in the top 10 individuals.

Both quiz teams traveled Dec. 1 to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville for state competition.

Other area winners include:

•Junior Creed, 10th place -- Audrey Mayes

•Junior Skills, fourth place -- Jaelyn Kotzur, Jacob Bailey, and Matthew Montgomery

•Job Interview, eighth place -- Allison Bukowski

•Senior Chapter Conducting, seventh place -- Taylor Penshorn, Rusty Story, Kaylin Bratz, Braden Recker, Annie Lowak, Kayla Gladstone, and Catrice James

•Senior Skills, sixth place -- Kourtney Sells, Leighton Robbins, and Taylor Penshorn.
