Falls City ISD earns high marks
Falls City Independent School District Superintendent Linda Bettin (from left) and board members Raymond Dziuk and Patrick Jarzombek discuss the district’s 2011-12 Academic Excellence Indicator System report during the board’s Dec. 19 meeting.
FALLS CITY -- Year after year, both the Falls City High School and the Luther Thomas Elementary School here have been given accountability ratings of “exemplary” by the Texas Education Agency, because of their stellar academic performance. So it is no wonder the district scored high performance marks on the agency’s 2011-12 Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) report. Falls City ISD Superintendent Linda Bettin reviewed the report with the district’s board of trustees during a public hearing at its Dec. 19 meeting.
Bettin read various items from the report. AEIS reports for districts throughout Texas are available online at http://bit.ly/Ugik6h.
With regard to Falls City ISD, the report indicates that the district’s 10th- and 11th-graders scored high on the 2012 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test, with grade percentages exceeding both state and regional averages in every area. For English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, the district’s 10th-grade students had an average score of 88 percent. The district’s 11th-graders scored an average of 94 percent on these tests.
The report also indicates that the district continues to enjoy an attendance rate of more than 98 percent and a dropout rate of 0 percent. All of the students in the school’s class of 2011 graduated and the class scored an average of 1089 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and an average of 22.3 on the American College Test (ACT).
Also during the meeting, the board voted unanimously to apply to the Texas Education Agency for a class-size waiver for Kimberly Kowalik’s second-grade class at Luther Thomas Elementary School. Bettin said the state requires one teacher for every 22 students. There currently are 23 students enrolled in the class.
In other business, the board’s next meeting has been postponed to Jan. 23.
***In attendance: Falls City ISD Superintendent Linda Bettin, Superintendent’s Secretary Terri Crawford, Principal Christy Blocker; and board members Raymond Dziuk, Jerry Jendrusch, Patrick Jarzombek, Alfie Kowalik, and Eddie Bordovsky.
