City council addresses infrastructure needs in LV

LA VERNIA -- Plans are under way for progress with the La Vernia Crossing development, located across from H-E-B at the intersection of U.S. 87 and F.M. 1346.
The La Vernia City Council met Dec. 17 to discuss and consider action on funding for the necessary infrastructure upgrade and lift station for the new development.
Council members Eloi Cormier, Bobby Richter, John Richter, Randy Leonard, and Mayor Robert Gregory discussed the need for the lift station, which helps to transfer sewage uphill, so it can be disposed of properly. In order to support infrastructure and future growth, the lift station is a necessity.
In order to fund the lift station, the council approved funding of $12,073 from the city’s general water/sewage account.
According to City Secretary/Treasurer Angela Cantu after the meeting, council members are working with the city attorney to craft an agreement for new businesses moving into La Vernia Crossing to pay a portion of the costs to use the sewer lines. In this way, the city will eventually recoup the initial outlay.
The council approved the expenditure and will create a new ordinance to support the project at the next regular council meeting.
