Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. 1952-2012

Joe David Carvajal Sr., a lifelong resident of Floresville, Texas, passed away on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at the age of 60 years, 6 months, and 14 days. He was born on June 3, 1952, in Floresville to Alfonso and Aurelia Carvajal.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Mary.

He is survived by his children, Christine Carvajal of San Antonio and Joe David Carvajal Jr. and wife Yvonne of Floresville; sisters Sylvia Perez of San Antonio, Gloria Garcia, Leticia Talamantez, Mary Jane Marroquin, Lupe Diaz, and Rachel Artigia, all of Floresville; brothers Frank Carvajal, Reuben Carvajal, and Billy Carvajal; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary was recited on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 9:30 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Phil Henning officiating.

Our condolences to the Carvajal family. We were sorry to hear of Joe's illness and his passing. Always enjoyed his company and his smile when we stopped in at Olivia's.

I grew up in Cañada Verde and knew Joe very well. We had some good and bad times when we were growing up, but we also have good memories of the area. I was very saddened by the news of Joe's passing he was a very humble and ... More ›
