George L. Lockamy, 65, of Floresville, Texas, was called home by the Lord on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012. He was born in San Antonio on Jan. 5, 1947, to George B. and Carmen (Marquez) Lockamy.

He joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and married the love of his life, Lucy, at age 18. He joined the San Antonio Police Department in 1968 and retired as a sergeant in 2001 after serving for 33 years. George loved to make friends. His greatest love was being with his family and grandchildren, attending every event he could. His eyes will fill with excitement when the next family gathering would come around. Everyone lovingly called him “grandpa,” which put a grin on his face from ear to ear. He loved going on the “guys-only” fishing trips with his sons, son-in-law, grandsons, brother, brothers-in-law, and his cousin Benny.

George was preceded in death by his parents; brother Robert; sister Shannon; parents-in-law Jesus and Mary Maldonado; and brother-in-law Eddie Olivarri.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy M. Lockamy; children Michele L. Hernandez and husband Carlos, George L. Lockamy III and wife Mary, and Ronald D. Lockamy and wife Carolyn; grandchildren Jaselle N. Luna and husband Devon, Gabrielle M. Ramos, Erica R. Hernandez, Megan L. Hernandez, Carlos M. Hernandez, Jordan M. Boswell, George L. Lockamy IV, Joshua M. Lockamy, Ashley D. Lockamy, Emily E. Lockamy, and Garrett D. Lockamy; great-grandchild Devon Jett Luna; brothers James Lockamy and wife Maud, and Ronnie, Johnny, and Mark Lockamy; sisters-in-law Rosie Olivarri, Carrie Ruiz and husband Elec, Kathy Rowell and husband John, Alice Tennyson and husband Randy, and Evelyn Fernandez and husband John; brothers-in-law Jesse Maldonado Jr. and wife Carrie and Leon Maldonado and wife Areli; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Jan. 1, at 6 p.m. in the Mission Park Funeral Chapels South in San Antonio with a rosary at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. in the Holy Name Catholic Church in San Antonio.

Interment will follow at noon in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
