SAN ANTONIO -- The Floresville Tigers began district play Dec. 21, facing McCollum on the Cowboys’ home court. The Cowboys are always tough opponents, and even tougher in their own gym.

Floresville scored the first bucket and kept the lead going into halftime, despite McCollum’s frequent trips to the free-throw line that yielded 11 of 14 shooting in the first half.

The Tigers controlled the boards in the second half and led by as many as 15 points before finishing the district opener with a victory over McCollum, 56-48.

The Tigers were led offensively by Charlie Albert and Estevan Mendiola with 14 points each, and Jaron Medina with four assists. Mason Ray finished the game with six rebounds, and Darren Orth once again led the Tigers defensively with four steals.

The Tigers were scheduled to participate in the Boerne Tournament Dec. 27-28, and then to resume district play against the Harlandale Indians Dec. 31 at Harlandale.
