Ruby “Jeanette” Eastland Akin went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, in Seguin, Texas, at the age of 91 years young. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends. Jeanette, as she was so fondly called, was born on July 5, 1921, in Houston to Banks D. and Nola Reed Eastland.

She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church for more than 69 years, and was a member of the United Methodist Women, where she was very active in the Sunday School program. She was a busy “b” with her hobbies, which included bunco, bingo, bridge, and bowling (she competed in this sport until age 85).

The family would like to thank her caregiver, Ada Lerma, and the staff at Guadalupe Valley Regional Hospital for the special care that was given to her.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 68 years, Lester Muriel Akin.

She is survived by her daughter, LaCretia Akin McReynolds and husband Bob of Houston; sons John Lester Akin and wife Janell and Alton Banks Akin and wife Charlin, all of Stockdale; grandsons Scott Akin and wife Barbara, Shane Akin and wife Anna, Blaine Akin and wife Meghan, and Joshua Cotter and wife Jenna; granddaughters Carrie McCleery and husband Sam, Stephanie Jones and husband Marc, and Teri Wolff and husband Ray; sisters Lena M. Pinckney and Banksie Bryan; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Friday, Jan. 4, from 4-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale.

A funeral service was held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the funeral chapel.

Interment followed in the Stockdale Cemetery in Stockdale.

Memorial donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 247, Stockdale, TX 78160.
